Spencer Smith Park is the centrepiece of Burlington’s waterfront and the city’s primary public gathering space — a well-maintained lakefront park directly on Lake Ontario in the heart of downtown Burlington, with views across the water toward the Toronto skyline on clear days.
The park’s most photographed moment happens each spring when cherry blossoms line the waterfront pathway in a tunnel of soft pink flowers. A pathway of sakura trees runs along the waterfront, and it’s like wandering through a fragrant pink tunnel — a genuinely fairytale-like experience that has made the park a pilgrimage destination for GTA visitors each April. The bloom window typically runs one to two weeks in mid-to-late April — check local social media for real-time bloom reports before planning your visit, since timing varies year to year.
The Brant Street Pier extends from the park’s eastern end out over Lake Ontario — a curved, modern structure lit at night that provides one of the best sunset viewing platforms in the Halton Region. The combination of the lake, the pier, and the Skyway Bridge visible to the east has made this one of the most photographed spots in Burlington at golden hour.
Beyond its photogenic qualities, Spencer Smith Park has genuine recreational depth: a splash pad, playground, and beach access for families; the Burlington Waterfront Trail passing through for cyclists and runners; a sculpture trail with rotating public art installations; and a significant events footprint that sees the park occupied by Canada’s Largest Ribfest, the Sound of Music Festival, Burlington Waterfront Festival, VegFest, and numerous community events throughout the year.
The Blewett Fountain at the park’s centre is illuminated after dark. A Canada war memorial on the park grounds honours those who served. Metered parking is available along Lakeshore Road; free parking can be found at 414 Locust St on weekends and in school lots during major events.
