The Oakville section of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail runs 13 kilometres along the Lake Ontario shoreline from Bronte Village in the west to the Mississauga boundary in the east — connecting most of Oakville’s significant waterfront parks, natural areas, and communities in a single paved route that’s accessible year-round.
The trail is fully paved through most of its Oakville length and suitable for road bikes, hybrid bikes, inline skates, and strollers. The Bronte Village to Old Oakville Harbour section (approximately 6 km) is the most scenic and the most popular — passing through Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, along the Bronte marina, through Coronation Park, and into the Old Oakville waterfront area at Lakeshore Road and Navy Street.
Key stopping points along the route from west to east: Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park and marina (Bronte Village), Coronation Park (midpoint, beach access), Gairloch Gardens (lakeside gardens and outdoor art), Old Oakville Harbour (cafés, restaurants, waterfront), Dingle Park (quiet beach and picnic area near downtown), and the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate.
The trail connects to the Burlington Waterfront Trail at the Oakville-Burlington border in the west and to the Mississauga Waterfront Trail (leading toward Port Credit and Toronto) at the eastern end — making Oakville a legitimate midpoint on a multi-city waterfront cycling day that can extend from Burlington or Hamilton to Mississauga.
Best season: late spring through fall for optimal conditions and park amenity access. Winter walks along the trail are possible and quiet, though facilities at Coronation Park and Gairloch Gardens are reduced.
Parking: multiple free parking areas along Lakeshore Road West and East serve the trail. The Old Oakville area has metered parking. Oakville GO Station is a short walk from the eastern section of the trail.
