Port Credit is Mississauga’s crown jewel — a historic lakeside village on the shores of Lake Ontario that combines small-town charm with a lively waterfront energy unlike anywhere else in the region. Just 26 km from downtown Toronto and a short ride on the Lakeshore West GO Train, Port Credit punches well above its weight as a destination for locals and visitors alike.
The Waterfront & Harbour
The Credit River empties into Lake Ontario right at the heart of Port Credit, creating a natural harbour surrounded by parks, promenades and over 400 boat slips. The waterfront promenade is the neighbourhood’s main artery — ideal for a morning walk, an afternoon cycle, or simply sitting on a bench watching sailboats head out onto the lake. On a clear day you can see the CN Tower from the waterfront parks.
Port Credit Lighthouse
The most photographed landmark in Mississauga, the Port Credit Lighthouse sits at the mouth of the Credit River and lights up in different colours to mark holidays and celebrate local sports team victories. A replica of the original 1800s lighthouse — the historic one was lost in a flood in 1908 — it remains the defining image of the neighbourhood and a must-stop for photos.
Parks Along the Water
Three parks line the Port Credit waterfront in quick succession. Port Credit Memorial Park is the community hub — featuring an outdoor amphitheatre with capacity for over 1,500 people, playgrounds, a splash pad, skate park and picnic areas, it’s the venue for most of Port Credit’s major festivals throughout the year. JC Saddington Park sits at the western end, offering some of the best unobstructed Lake Ontario views in Mississauga and direct access to the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail. The Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens, just west of the main strip, bloom brilliantly in late spring.
The Waterfront Trail
The paved Waterfront Trail runs directly through Port Credit along the Lake Ontario shoreline, connecting east toward Lakeview and South Etobicoke and west through Oakville. It’s one of the best cycling and walking routes in the GTA — flat, scenic, and dotted with rest stops, parks and lake views the entire way. Bike rentals are available near the trail.
Lakeshore Road — Dining, Shops & Patios
Port Credit’s main strip along Lakeshore Road West is one of Mississauga’s most walkable stretches — independent boutiques, art galleries, cafés, wine bars and restaurants with patios that fill up on warm evenings. Snug Harbour is the standout waterfront restaurant, the only one sitting directly on Lake Ontario with an expansive patio and harbour views. Old Credit Brewing Company, local wine bars, seafood spots and casual lakeside eateries round out a dining scene that feels more like a resort town than a suburb.
Farmers Market
The Port Credit Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 8 AM to 2 PM, from early June through October, in the Elmwood Lot near the LCBO. Fresh produce, eggs, artisan cheese, baked goods and local vendors — often with live music — make it one of the best weekly markets in Mississauga.
Water Activities
The Port Credit Yacht Club offers sailing lessons, kayaking and paddleboarding for all skill levels. Fishing charters depart from the harbour regularly. Dragon boat racing, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding are all popular on the Credit River and the lake. In a cold winter when the Credit River freezes, locals have been known to shovel the ice for makeshift hockey rinks.
Festivals & Events
Port Credit has one of the most active festival calendars in Mississauga. Annual highlights include the Canada Day Paint the Town Red Parade & Fireworks (July 1), Mississauga Waterfront Festival (June), Southside Shuffle Blues & Jazz Festival (September), Port Credit Busker Fest (August), Mississauga Ribfest (July) and the Saturday Farmers Market (June–October). The outdoor amphitheatre in Memorial Park hosts concerts and community events all summer long.
Getting There
The Port Credit GO Station on the Lakeshore West line drops you directly into the heart of the village — one of the most convenient GO stops in the system. By car, Port Credit is a 15-minute drive from Mississauga City Centre and about 30 minutes from downtown Toronto via the QEW. MiWay bus routes serve Lakeshore Road throughout the day.
Parking: Free and paid parking is available throughout the neighbourhood. The Elm Wood Lot and street parking on side streets off Lakeshore are your best bets on busy summer weekends. Arrive before 10 AM on festival days.
